Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is one of Sydney's major hospitals, and parking around it is limited. Our newborn taxi RPA Hospital service gives you a calm alternative on discharge day: a clean car with a rear-facing baby capsule already installed, a driver who helps with the bags, and a gentle drive home.
RPA sits in Camperdown, about 3 km from the CBD, surrounded by narrow inner west streets, the University of Sydney and the busy Parramatta Road and City Road corridors. Whether you are heading a few minutes to Newtown or Glebe, or out to the suburbs, we take the stress out of that first trip together.
Where RPA Women and Babies is today
Many Sydney families still think of RPA maternity as "KGV". The King George V Memorial Hospital for Mothers and Babies opened on Missenden Road in 1941, but the King George V building now houses hospital administration and the RPA Museum. Maternity care has moved.
Today, RPA Women and Babies is part of the Main Building at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Missenden Road, Camperdown. The hospital advises families to enter via the Main Building entrance off Missenden Road, and there is also a Women and Babies entrance off Johns Hopkins Drive. With ongoing redevelopment on the campus, wards can relocate, so we confirm the exact pick-up point with you when you book.
If you gave birth in RPA's private maternity wing, it is the same hospital and the same process.
Why parents skip the car park at RPA
RPA itself says parking around the hospital is limited and recommends allowing extra time. The visitor car park is entered via Hospital Road, off Carillon Avenue, and is a walk from the main entrance. Metered street parking nearby is scarce.
On discharge day that usually means one parent leaves to fetch the car while the other waits with the baby, the bags and the pram. With a pre-booked newborn taxi, you walk out together and we load everything for you. Your quote is fixed and includes the capsule and any tolls, with no meter running while you wait for paperwork.

Timing your newborn taxi from RPA Hospital
Discharge times are hard to predict. Your baby may need a final paediatric review, a hearing screen or extra feeding support, and you may be waiting on medications or your discharge summary.
- Book in advance with your expected discharge date. Many parents book before the birth.
- Call 0426 779 775 when you have been signed out, and we will dispatch your car.
- Change of plan? If your stay is extended, just let us know and we will move the booking.
We are available 24/7, so an early-morning or weekend discharge is no harder to arrange than a weekday afternoon.
Capsule fitting done properly
Under NSW rules, babies up to six months must travel in an approved rear-facing restraint. Taxis have limited exemptions for older children, but never for a newborn, and a regular cab rarely carries a capsule.
Our rear-facing baby capsules meet AS/NZS 1754 and are anchored with ISOFIX and a top tether before your driver sets off for Camperdown. Drivers are trained in installation and will help you check that the harness sits snugly and the buckle is secure. Seats are cleaned between trips. For older children, see our taxi with child seat in Sydney.

Gentle on mum, after any kind of birth
RPA is a major referral hospital, and some families go home after a longer stay, a caesarean or time in the newborn care unit. Whatever your story, the drive should be quiet and smooth. Our drivers brake early, take speed humps slowly and choose calmer streets where they can, rather than racing through Parramatta Road traffic.
We allow extra time at pickup so you can move at your own pace, and we are happy to stop if your baby needs a feed. Read more about our newborn hospital discharge taxi.
Checklist, twins and the whole family
- Discharge summary, your baby's blue book and any medications
- A going-home outfit without bulky layers under the harness
- A wrap or muslin to place over your buckled-in baby
- Nappy bag, spare clothes and a bottle or feeding cover
- Loose clothing and a small cushion for mum
Taking home twins? We fit two rear-facing capsules side by side and bring a car with space for a double pram. If siblings or grandparents are coming, our 7-seaters and maxi taxi with baby seats carry everyone together.

Is Baby Taxi Sydney connected to RPA Hospital?
No. We are an independent family taxi and chauffeur service and are not affiliated with Royal Prince Alfred Hospital or Sydney Local Health District. Parents book us directly so they have a car with a correctly installed baby capsule waiting when they are discharged from RPA Women and Babies.
Is RPA maternity still in the King George V building?
No. The King George V Memorial Hospital for Mothers and Babies opened in 1941, but the KGV building now houses administration and the RPA Museum. RPA Women and Babies is in the Main Building, entered off Missenden Road. We confirm the exact pick-up point with you before discharge day.
How do I book a newborn taxi from RPA Hospital if I don't know my discharge time?
Book with your expected discharge day, online or by phone. Once the midwives have signed you out, call 0426 779 775 and we will send the car. If you are kept in longer, message us and we will move the booking.
Can you take us further than the inner west?
Yes. We cover Sydney within about 30 km of the city, and further outskirts or long-distance trips can be arranged. Tell us your home suburb when booking and we will give you a fixed quote that includes the baby seat and tolls.
Our baby spent time in the newborn care unit. Can you still help?
Yes. Please follow your hospital team's advice on car travel and let us know about any specific needs when booking. We will bring a rear-facing capsule suited to newborns, allow extra time at pickup and drive gently. We can also help with follow-up medical appointments.
Can my partner and toddler ride with us?
Of course. Tell us how many people are travelling and your toddler's age, and we will install a toddler seat or booster alongside the capsule. If you have a double pram or lots of luggage, we can send an SUV or 7-seater.
