Every baby born at the Royal Hospital for Women in Randwick needs a safe first car ride. If you do not have a car, or would rather not have your partner circling the campus looking for parking, a taxi with baby capsule from the Royal Hospital for Women is the simplest way home. We arrive with a rear-facing capsule already installed and tested.
The Randwick campus is shared by several hospitals, so the streets and car park are busy at every hour. We know how it works, we confirm a sensible meeting point with you, and we drive the gentle way home, whether that is a few minutes to Coogee or across the city.
Getting picked up on the Randwick hospital campus
The Royal Hospital for Women is on Barker Street, Randwick, on a campus it shares with Prince of Wales Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital and Sydney Children's Hospital. Postnatal Services are on level three, in the Paddington and Oxford Wards.
The hospital's own transport guide marks a main entrance and a short-stay patient drop-off area, and the RHW entrance is reached via Barker Street and Easy Street. The underground car park is also entered via Easy Street. Because this is a working campus where kerb space is tightly managed, we confirm the exact pick-up point with you when you book and again on the day.
Street parking nearby is genuinely hard to find. Booking a car that comes to you saves your partner the dash to the car park with a newborn and a mountain of bags.
Prince of Wales Private and Sydney Children's Hospital
If you gave birth at Prince of Wales Private Hospital, the process is the same. Its main entrance is on Barker Street, and we will agree the meeting spot with you in advance.
Some babies need follow-up care after discharge, and Sydney Children's Hospital is on the same campus. If you are coming back for a check, a scan or a specialist appointment, we can take you there and home again with the capsule ready. Our taxi with child seat in Sydney service covers medical appointments for older children too.

Taxi with baby capsule: why a pre-fitted seat matters
In NSW, babies under six months must travel in an approved rear-facing restraint. Standard taxis have limited exemptions for older children, but a newborn always needs a capsule, and a hailed cab rarely has one. Fitting your own in an unfamiliar car at the kerb, after a long stay in hospital, is where mistakes happen.
Our rear-facing capsules meet AS/NZS 1754 and are anchored with ISOFIX and a top tether before we leave for Randwick. Your driver is trained in installation and will help you check the harness height and fit. Each seat is cleaned between trips. Learn more about our baby capsule taxi in Sydney.
When will we be discharged? Booking around an uncertain time
Most parents are told "some time tomorrow" rather than an exact hour. Discharge can depend on a doctor's round, your baby's newborn checks, feeding support or a final medication review.
- Book early with your expected discharge day. You can even arrange it during pregnancy.
- Call 0426 779 775 once you have been signed out, and we will send your car.
- If your stay is extended, let us know and we will rebook without fuss.
We operate 24/7, 365 days a year, so a Sunday morning or late-evening discharge is just as easy. Your fixed quote includes the capsule and tolls.

A gentle drive home for mum
Whether you had a straightforward birth or a caesarean, you will feel every pothole on the way home. Our drivers keep to smooth routes, take roundabouts slowly and allow plenty of time for you to get in and out. If you need to stop for a feed, tell us and we will find a safe place.
The hospital sits around 6 km from the CBD, so most rides through the eastern suburbs are short, and we are equally happy to take you further. If family are flying in to meet the baby, we also offer airport transfers with baby seat.
Packing list and twins
Before you call us, gather the following:
- Discharge papers, your baby's blue book and any medications
- A simple outfit for your baby with no thick padding under the harness
- A light blanket to tuck over the buckled harness
- A feeding and nappy bag within reach
- Mum's comfortable clothes, maternity pads and a water bottle
Bringing home twins? For two babies we fit two rear-facing capsules side by side and send a vehicle with room for a double pram. Larger families can book a 7-seater or people mover, and you can book online in a few minutes.

Are you the Royal Hospital for Women's official taxi service?
No. Baby Taxi Sydney is an independent family taxi and chauffeur service and is not affiliated with the Royal Hospital for Women or any hospital on the Randwick campus. Parents book us directly when they want a car with a properly fitted baby capsule ready for discharge day.
Where will the driver meet us at the Royal Hospital for Women?
The campus has a main entrance, a short-stay patient drop-off area and access via Barker Street and Easy Street, but conditions on the day vary. We confirm the exact pick-up point with you when you book and again when you call to say you are signed out, so you are not left waiting outside.
Can I book a taxi with baby capsule before my baby is born?
Yes, and many parents do. Book with your due date or planned caesarean date, then update us with your expected discharge day once your baby arrives. On the day, call when you are signed out and we will send the car.
Do you also collect from Prince of Wales Private Hospital?
Yes. Prince of Wales Private Hospital is on the same Randwick campus with its main entrance on Barker Street. Let us know where you are when booking and we will arrange a convenient meeting point and bring a capsule fitted to suit your newborn.
Can you take us back to Sydney Children's Hospital for a follow-up?
Yes. If your baby has an appointment at Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick, we can drive you there and home again with a capsule installed. We can add a toddler seat or booster too if an older sibling is coming along.
Is the capsule suitable for a premature or small baby?
Our rear-facing capsules are designed for newborns and meet AS/NZS 1754. If your baby is premature or has specific medical needs, please follow the advice of your hospital team about car travel and tell us when booking, so we can discuss your requirements before pickup.
