Canterbury Hospital is a busy local maternity hospital, and many families are ready to go home sooner than they expect. Our newborn taxi Canterbury Hospital service means a car with a rear-facing baby capsule already installed can be with you soon after you are signed out, so the first drive with your baby is calm, safe and simple.
Our base is in Roselands, just a few kilometres from the hospital in Campsie, so this is very much home ground for us. We take new families back to Campsie, Belmore, Lakemba, Earlwood, Kingsgrove and right across Sydney, with fixed quotes that already include the baby seat and any tolls.
Finding each other at Canterbury Hospital
Canterbury Hospital's street address is 575 Canterbury Road, Campsie, but the hospital itself sits on Thorncraft Parade, just off Canterbury Road. Its main entrance is on Level 3 from Thorncraft Parade, and the hospital notes a pick-up and drop-off zone outside that entrance for private cars and taxis.
That front entrance is usually the natural place to meet, but we do not assume. We confirm the pick-up point with you when you book and again on the day, so you know exactly where your driver will be waiting. Please note that Baby Taxi Sydney is an independent service and is not affiliated with Canterbury Hospital or Sydney Local Health District.
The hospital has a paid underground car park and some time-limited street parking nearby. With a pre-booked car, nobody has to circle for a space, pay for a ticket or bring the car around while you wait in the foyer with your newborn.
Short stays mean planning the ride early
Canterbury Hospital says most women stay around 4 to 24 hours after a straightforward birth, or about 48 to 72 hours after a caesarean, and it asks families to have arrangements in place for getting home. That can come around fast, sometimes the same day you give birth.
- Book before your due date if you can. We note your details and wait to hear from you.
- Call 0426 779 775 once you are cleared to leave and we will send the car from Roselands.
- Overnight or early-morning discharge is fine. We operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
- Plans change? If you need to stay longer, just let us know and we move the booking.
Because the quote is fixed, a slow sign-out or a last-minute change in timing does not change what you pay.

Why a properly fitted capsule matters on day one
In NSW, babies under six months must travel in an approved rear-facing child restraint, and in a taxi no child under 12 months may travel without a suitable approved restraint. Some exemptions apply to older children in taxis, but for a newborn the rules are clear, and the real question is whether the capsule is fitted correctly.
A capsule wrestled into place at the kerb, by tired parents or a driver in a rush, is easy to get wrong. Ours are rear-facing baby capsules that meet Australian Standard AS/NZS 1754, anchored with ISOFIX and a top tether before we arrive. Drivers are trained in correct installation and can help you adjust the harness to your baby's size. Learn more about our baby capsule taxi in Sydney.
Newborn taxi Canterbury Hospital: the routes home
Families leaving Campsie head in every direction, and we plan the smoothest way rather than the quickest-looking one on a map.
- West towards Belmore, Lakemba and Bankstown: usually along Canterbury Road, a busy corridor we take steadily.
- South towards Roselands, Beverly Hills and Kingsgrove: often via King Georges Road, which also links to the M5 at Beverly Hills for longer trips to the south-west.
- East towards Earlwood, Bexley and the airport side of Sydney: local roads or the M5 East depending on traffic, with tolls already in your quote.
- Further afield: the Sutherland Shire, Parramatta or the inner west might take around 25 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic and time of day.
After a caesarean in particular, we brake early, ease over speed humps and give you plenty of time to get in and out. If you need to stop for a feed, just ask.

A quick packing list for going home
Short stays leave little time to get organised, so it helps to have a small bag ready before labour starts:
- Your discharge paperwork, your baby's blue book and any medicines
- A soft one-piece outfit for your baby, without thick padding under the harness
- A light wrap or muslin to tuck over the buckled harness if it is cool
- Nappies, wipes and spare clothes within easy reach
- Loose, comfortable clothes for mum and maybe a small pillow for the ride
- The pram, bassinet, balloons or flowers, so we can send a car with enough boot space
Canterbury Hospital's midwifery home-visiting services may follow up once you are settled, so keep your hospital paperwork somewhere easy to find.
Room for siblings, twins and grandparents
Discharge day is often a family affair. Tell us who is coming and the children's ages, and we will fit a capsule alongside a toddler seat or booster. For twins, we can install two rear-facing capsules side by side, and our SUVs, 7-seaters and people movers leave space for a double pram. See our maxi taxi with baby seats for larger groups.
Once you are home, we are still close by for check-ups, family visits and the first airport trip, through our newborn hospital discharge taxi and wider family transport. As A D wrote: "They organised a driver for us within 30minutes. The vehicles were super clean." When you are ready, book online or give us a call.

Are you connected with Canterbury Hospital?
No. Baby Taxi Sydney is an independent family taxi and chauffeur service based in Roselands. We are not affiliated with Canterbury Hospital or Sydney Local Health District. Parents book us directly so a car with a correctly fitted baby capsule is ready on discharge day, and we confirm the pick-up point with you when you book.
Where do you pick up at Canterbury Hospital?
The hospital's main entrance is on Level 3 from Thorncraft Parade, just off Canterbury Road in Campsie, and there is a pick-up and drop-off zone outside it. That is often the easiest spot, but we confirm the exact pick-up point with you when booking and again on the day so you know where your driver will be.
What if I am discharged only a few hours after the birth?
That is common at Canterbury Hospital, which says many women go home within 4 to 24 hours after a straightforward birth. Book ahead with your due date, then call 0426 779 775 when you are cleared to leave. Our base in Roselands is only a few kilometres away, and we operate 24/7, including nights and weekends.
Is a taxi with a baby capsule legal and safe for a newborn?
Yes, when the capsule is approved and fitted properly. NSW rules require babies under six months to travel rear-facing in an approved restraint, including in taxis. Our capsules meet AS/NZS 1754 and are installed with ISOFIX and a top tether before pickup by drivers trained in correct fitting, so you are not fitting a seat in a hurry.
Do you charge extra for the baby seat or the M5 toll?
No. Your quote is fixed and already includes every baby seat we install and any tolls on the route, such as the M5. There are no hidden fees, so if the trip home runs a little longer because of traffic or a feeding stop, the price you agreed stays the same.
Can my partner and our toddler come in the same car?
Absolutely. Let us know how many people are travelling and your children's ages when booking. We can fit a baby capsule plus a forward-facing toddler seat or booster, and larger vehicles carry the whole family with room for the pram and hospital bags. Each seat is cleaned between trips and the car is sanitised.
