Nepean Hospital's address is 55 Derby Street, Kingswood, and the campus is bounded by the Great Western Highway, Somerset Street, Parker Street and Derby Street. Redevelopment has changed how people move around it. The linkway bridge into Building A closed in December 2025, and the hospital set up a temporary entrance through Level 1 of Building E, outside Pathology.

The hospital lists patient pick-up zones with a 10-minute limit and no parking, including at the Building E entrance (vehicle entry via Gate 6 on Somerset Street) and the Building C entrance (via Gate 2 on Parker Street, southbound). Because signs and access can shift while construction continues, we confirm the exact meeting point with you when you book and again on the day, so your driver is waiting in the right zone instead of circling the gates.

How soon you might be heading home

Stays after birth at Nepean can be short. Information for the hospital's maternity service puts the usual stay at around 4 to 24 hours after a straightforward vaginal birth, at least 24 hours after an assisted birth, and up to about 48 hours after a caesarean. Your midwives will tell you what applies to you.

• Pre-book during pregnancy with your due date and home suburb, and we keep your details ready.
• Give us a heads-up early. Kingswood is a longer run from our Roselands base, so call 0426 779 775 as soon as discharge looks likely, then again when you are cleared to leave.
• Nights and weekends are fine. We operate 24/7, every day of the year.
• Staying longer than planned? Just tell us and we move the booking.

Coming home after time in the NICU

Because Nepean's tower includes a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, some families leave after days or weeks rather than hours. If your baby was born early or is small, ask the neonatal team before discharge about anything specific for the car journey. Our capsules are rear-facing and suitable from newborn, and drivers can help you adjust the harness, but medical advice about your baby always comes from the hospital.

A NICU homecoming often means extra bags, a breast pump, cards and paperwork. Tell us when you book and we will send a vehicle with room for all of it. We keep the drive gentle, and we are happy to pull over safely if your baby needs a feed.

Kingswood sits between the Great Western Highway and the M4 Motorway, which shapes most trips home.

• Blue Mountains: west along the Great Western Highway, a winding climb we take slowly with a newborn on board.
• Penrith, Jamisontown and Glenmore Park: short local trips, often via Parker Street (The Northern Road) or Mulgoa Road.
• St Marys, Blacktown and Parramatta: usually east along the M4.
• Sydney CBD: roughly 55 km away, often around 50 to 70 minutes by car depending on traffic.
• Sydney Airport: around 50 to 60 km, typically about an hour, and longer in peak traffic.

The safety side: NSW rules and a capsule fitted properly

NSW road rules require babies under 6 months to travel in an approved rear-facing restraint, and babies from 6 to 12 months in a rear-facing restraint or a forward-facing one with an inbuilt harness. In a taxi, a child under 12 months must be secured in a suitable approved restraint. Some exemptions apply to older children in taxis, which is exactly why it pays to book a service that brings the right seat for every child.

Tell us who is coming.
