The Sutherland Hospital in Caringbah has a Birthing Unit for women with a low-risk pregnancy, with five birthing rooms and care available 24 hours a day. Our newborn taxi Sutherland Hospital service sends a car with a rear-facing baby capsule already installed, so your first drive as a family is calm, comfortable and safe.
Most families here are heading somewhere in the Shire: Cronulla, Miranda, Gymea, Kirrawee, Sutherland, Engadine, Menai and the streets in between. Our base in Roselands is just across the Georges River, and your quote includes the baby seats and any tolls before you book.
Where we meet you in Caringbah
The Sutherland Hospital sits on the corner of The Kingsway and Kareena Road, Caringbah. Its public car park is entered from Kareena Road, parking fees apply after a short free period, and the Antenatal Clinic is on the ground floor near the main entrance.
The main entrance is often the simplest meeting point, but we do not assume. We confirm the pick-up spot with you when you book and again on the day, so your driver is waiting where you expect. Your partner does not need to bring a car around or pay for parking while you wait with your newborn.
Baby Taxi Sydney is an independent service. We are not affiliated with The Sutherland Hospital or South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.
If your birth plan moved to St George Hospital
Because Sutherland's Birthing Unit is for low-risk pregnancies, the hospital works with St George Hospital in Kogarah through its maternity network. If serious problems arise, you or your baby may be transferred there. That can leave families with an unexpected trip home from a different hospital, sometimes in separate stages.
We can collect you from either hospital. Tell us where you are and where you are going, and we will plan the trip with a capsule fitted before arrival. If mum and baby leave on different days, we can do two trips. Our newborn hospital discharge taxi covers hospitals across Sydney.

After a caesarean we take every speed hump slowly and give you as long as you need to get in and out.
A baby capsule, fitted the right way
In NSW, babies under 6 months must travel in an approved rear-facing restraint, and babies from 6 to 12 months in a rear-facing restraint or a forward-facing one with an inbuilt harness. In a taxi, children under 12 months must be secured in a suitable approved restraint.
The harder part is fitting it correctly. Our capsules meet Australian Standard AS/NZS 1754 and are anchored with ISOFIX and a top tether before we arrive, by drivers trained in correct installation. They can also help you check the harness height and snugness for your baby's size. Read more about our baby capsule taxi in Sydney.

Close to the airport for visiting family
Caringbah is one of the closer parts of Sydney to Sydney Airport, which helps when grandparents fly in for the birth. We can collect them from T1 international or T2/T3 domestic, bring them to the hospital or your home, and take them back again later. See our airport transfers with baby seat.
Flights do not always run to time. As Samantha W. wrote: "We had a 40 minute wait on the tarmac and our driver was waiting patiently for us."
What to have ready for the ride home
- Your discharge paperwork, your baby's blue book and any medicines
- A soft one-piece outfit for your baby, with no bulky padding under the harness
- A light wrap to tuck over the buckled harness if it is cool
- Nappies, wipes and spare clothes in an easy-to-reach bag
- Something comfortable for mum, and a small cushion if you would like one
- The pram, bassinet, flowers and balloons, so we can send a car with enough boot space
When you are ready, book online or call 0426 779 775.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Baby Taxi Sydney part of The Sutherland Hospital?
No. Baby Taxi Sydney is an independent family taxi and chauffeur service based in Roselands. We are not affiliated with The Sutherland Hospital or South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. Parents book us directly so that a car with a correctly fitted rear-facing capsule is ready on discharge day, and we confirm the pick-up point with you beforehand.
Where do you pick up at The Sutherland Hospital?
The hospital is on the corner of The Kingsway and Kareena Road in Caringbah, with its car park entered from Kareena Road. The main entrance is often the easiest place to meet, but we confirm the exact pick-up point with you when you book and again on the day, so you know where your driver will be waiting.
Can you collect us from St George Hospital if we were transferred?
Yes. Some families who planned to give birth at Sutherland end up at St George Hospital in Kogarah. We can collect you from either hospital, with a rear-facing capsule fitted before we arrive. If mum and baby are discharged on different days, we can book two separate trips. Just tell us which hospital you are at.
How long is the drive from Caringbah to the rest of the Shire?
Most trips within the Shire are short, though times depend on traffic and the time of day. Cronulla is close by along The Kingsway, while Engadine, Heathcote or Menai take a little longer. Trips to the Sydney CBD are often around 30 to 50 minutes. We plan the smoothest route with a newborn in mind.
Do you charge extra for the capsule or for waiting at discharge?
Your quote includes every baby seat we install and any tolls on the route, and the price is confirmed before you book, with no hidden fees. Discharge paperwork can take longer than expected, so just keep us updated and we will adjust the pick-up time. If you stay another night, we move the booking.
Can you pick up grandparents from Sydney Airport as well?
Yes. We run airport transfers from Sydney Airport's T1 international and T2/T3 domestic terminals, with baby and child seats fitted where needed. Caringbah is relatively close to the airport, so many families book a relative's arrival and the trip home from hospital together. Share the flight details when you book and we plan around them.
