The Children's Hospital at Westmead is the largest paediatric centre in NSW, and families travel to it from all over Sydney and beyond. Our taxi with car seat to The Children's Hospital at Westmead service means the right child seat is already installed when we pull up, whether you are heading to a clinic, a surgery admission or bringing your child home after a stay.
We collect from home, Sydney Airport, a train station or wherever you are staying, and we can carry siblings, prams and luggage in the same trip. Your quote includes the child seats and any tolls, and the price is confirmed before you book.
Which Westmead entrance you need
The hospital is at the corner of Hawkesbury Road and Hainsworth Street, Westmead, beside the adult Westmead Hospital. Its services are spread across several buildings, so the drop-off point depends on why you are visiting.
- Banksia Building: at the Hawkesbury Road and Hainsworth Street corner. Outpatient clinics, medical imaging and pathology are on Level 2.
- Wattle Building: on Hawkesbury Road, next to the Banksia Building. Perioperative Admissions and the Surgical Short Stay Unit are on Level 3, and Ronald McDonald House is on Level 9.
- Children's Emergency Department: on Hawkesbury Road between the children's and adult hospitals, with a 15-minute drop-off and pick-up zone outside its entrance.
Check your appointment letter for the building and level, tell us when you book, and we will agree the most practical drop-off and pick-up point. Baby Taxi Sydney is independent and not affiliated with The Children's Hospital at Westmead or the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network.
Taxi with car seat to Westmead: the right seat for each child
NSW law requires children under seven to use an approved restraint suited to their age and size. Taxis carry a limited exemption: from 12 months, a child may legally ride in a taxi with just a seatbelt. That is legal, but an adult belt does not fit a small child well, so we never rely on it.
- Babies (newborn to around 12 months): rear-facing capsule.
- Toddlers (around one to four years): forward-facing seat with a five-point harness.
- Older children (around four to eight years): high-back booster.
Each seat meets AS/NZS 1754 and is anchored with ISOFIX and a top tether before pickup by a driver trained in installation. See our taxi with child seat in Sydney for more.

Surgery days and early starts
Surgery admissions often begin early in the morning, and missing a check-in time is the last thing you need. We operate 24 hours a day, so a pre-dawn pickup is routine for us. On the way home, your child may be drowsy or uncomfortable, and you may be juggling discharge papers and medicines.
That is where a pre-installed seat helps most. You are not threading straps in a car park while holding a sleepy child. Let us know anything the hospital team has told you about how your child should travel, such as a cast, a brace or extra support, and follow their advice on medical questions. We will bring a suitable seat and vehicle and drive smoothly.
Getting to Westmead from across Sydney
The hospital is signposted from the M4 and M2 motorways, James Ruse Drive and the Great Western Highway. Typical drive times, which vary with traffic and time of day:
- Parramatta and nearby suburbs: usually a short local trip.
- Sydney CBD: around 35 to 55 minutes, often via the M4.
- Sydney Airport: around 40 to 60 minutes.
- Penrith, Blacktown, the Hills and Liverpool: varies widely, so we plan your pickup around your check-in time with a buffer.
Tolls are included in your quote, so we can take the motorway when it is the calmer, quicker option.

Families travelling from further away
Many children are treated at Westmead after travelling from regional NSW or interstate. If you are flying into Sydney, we can meet you at the airport with seats already fitted using our airport transfers with baby seat, and take you straight to the hospital or to where you are staying. Tom S. said: "Airport pick up and drop off with baby seat was spot on."
If you are arriving by train, we can collect you from a station and bring you the last stretch with bags and the right seats. Our people movers suit larger families or longer stays with plenty of luggage.
Brothers, sisters and all the gear
Plenty of hospital trips involve more than one child. We can fit a capsule, a toddler seat and a booster in the same vehicle, and our 7-seaters and people movers fit several seats side by side. For bigger groups, see our maxi taxi with baby seats. Every seat is cleaned between trips and every car is sanitised.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are you linked to The Children's Hospital at Westmead?
No. Baby Taxi Sydney is an independent family taxi and chauffeur service. We are not affiliated with The Children's Hospital at Westmead or the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, and we do not provide patient transport or medical care. Families book us directly when they want a car with the correct child seats installed for a hospital trip.
Where will you drop us off at Westmead?
It depends on your appointment. Outpatient clinics are in the Banksia Building on Level 2, surgical admissions are in the Wattle Building on Level 3, and the Children's Emergency Department on Hawkesbury Road has a 15-minute drop-off and pick-up zone. Tell us what your letter says and we will agree the best point with you.
Can you pick us up very early for a surgery admission?
Yes. We operate 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and early-morning hospital pickups are no problem when they are booked ahead. Give us your check-in time and home address, and we will plan a pickup time that leaves a comfortable buffer for traffic on the way to Westmead.
Is a booster still worth it for a five or six-year-old in a taxi?
NSW rules require children under seven to use an approved restraint in most vehicles, although taxis have an exemption for children 12 months and over. Even where a seatbelt is legal, a high-back booster for children around four to eight positions the belt properly, so we bring one when you tell us your child's age and size.
Can you take us home to the Blue Mountains or further?
Yes. We service Sydney and its outskirts, and longer or interstate trips can be arranged. Tell us your destination when you book and we will quote for it, with every child seat and any tolls included. The price is confirmed before you book, so a long drive home holds no surprises.
My child has a cast or brace. Can you still help?
Please ask the hospital team how your child should travel, as that is medical advice we cannot give. Then tell us what they recommend, along with your child's age and size, and we will bring the most suitable seat and vehicle. Our drivers will give you plenty of time to settle your child before setting off.
