Hornsby is the hub of Sydney's Upper North Shore, with Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, Westfield Hornsby and a busy rail interchange all close together. Our baby seat taxi in Hornsby gives local families a calmer way to travel: your child's capsule, toddler seat or booster is installed before we pull up, so there's nothing to fit at the kerb.
Baby Taxi Sydney is a pre-booked service available 24/7, every day of the year. Hornsby sits on the northern edge of our area, so trips here are by arrangement. Book ahead and we'll confirm the right vehicle, the seats you need and a fixed price that includes tolls.
Leaving Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital with your newborn
Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital is on Palmerston Road, Hornsby. Its maternity ward and birth unit are on Level 2, entered through the HOPE Building next to Emergency. It's a smaller maternity service than the big city hospitals, and a local option for Upper North Shore families who want to birth close to home.
On discharge day, the last thing you want is to learn how a capsule fits in the hospital car park. We take care of that for you:
- Book with your estimated discharge date, then update us on the day.
- Your driver arrives with a rear-facing capsule anchored with ISOFIX and top tether.
- They'll help with the bags and flowers while you carry your baby.
We're an independent service and aren't affiliated with the hospital. Find out more about our newborn hospital discharge taxi.
Hornsby to Sydney Airport without the train change
Getting from Hornsby to the airport by train usually means changing at Central with a pram and suitcases. By car, drivers normally head down the Pacific Highway or the M1, then through the Harbour Tunnel and Eastern Distributor, or via the M2 and Lane Cove Tunnel. Allow around 40–60 minutes outside peak times, and longer in weekday rush hours.
Any tolls are included in your fixed quote. For arrivals, share your flight details when you book. Samantha W. told us: "We had a 40 minute wait on the tarmac and our driver was waiting patiently for us."

Cruise days and longer trips from the north
Hornsby families heading off on a cruise have a fairly direct run to the city. The Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay and White Bay are both reached via the harbour crossings, often in around 35–50 minutes depending on traffic. A people mover leaves room for car seats, cases and a pram, so the holiday starts calmly. See our cruise terminal transfers.
Hornsby is also the gateway to the M1 heading north. Long-distance family trips, such as up the motorway to visit relatives, can be arranged with the same pre-fitted seats.
Getting the seat right, every trip
In NSW, children under seven must use an approved child restraint suited to their age and size. Babies under six months must face the rear. From six months to four years, children need a rear-facing seat or a forward-facing seat with an inbuilt harness, and from four to seven a harnessed seat or booster.
Standard taxis don't have to carry child seats, and the rules let a child over 12 months ride in a taxi with just a seatbelt. A seatbelt isn't designed for a toddler's body, so we always fit a proper restraint. Every seat meets AS/NZS 1754 and is installed by a driver trained in correct fitting.
- Rear-facing baby capsules for newborns to around 12 months
- Forward-facing toddler seats with 5-point harness for around 1–4 years
- High-back boosters for around 4–8 years

Do you service Hornsby and the Upper North Shore?
Yes, by arrangement. Hornsby, Waitara, Wahroonga, Asquith, Berowra and nearby suburbs are on the northern edge of our usual area, so we plan these trips in advance. Booking a day or more ahead is best, particularly for early flights, cruise departures and hospital discharges. We'll confirm the vehicle, seats and fixed price.
Can you collect us from Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital?
Yes. We pick up families from Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital on Palmerston Road. Book with your estimated discharge date and keep us posted on the day, as discharge times often change. Your driver brings a rear-facing capsule already installed with ISOFIX and top tether. We're independent and not affiliated with the hospital.
How long is the drive from Hornsby to Sydney Airport?
Usually around 40–60 minutes outside peak times, and longer during weekday rush hours. Drivers normally use the Pacific Highway or M1, then the Harbour Tunnel and Eastern Distributor, or the M2 and Lane Cove Tunnel. We'll suggest a pickup time that leaves a comfortable buffer, and any tolls are included in your quote.
Is a taxi easier than the train from Hornsby to the airport?
With a baby, usually yes. The train trip from Hornsby generally involves a change at Central, which means lifting a pram, bags and car seats between platforms. A pre-booked car takes you door to door with your child's seat already fitted, and it suits early departures before trains are running frequently.
Can you take us from Hornsby to a cruise terminal?
Yes. We run family transfers to the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay and to White Bay. The trip from Hornsby often takes around 35–50 minutes, depending on traffic. For bigger families or lots of luggage, a 7-seater van or 11-seater people mover fits several child seats plus cases and prams.
Do I need to bring my own car seat?
No. We supply and fit the seat before pickup, whether your child needs a rear-facing capsule, a forward-facing toddler seat with 5-point harness or a high-back booster. Just tell us each child's age when you book. All our seats meet AS/NZS 1754 and are cleaned between trips.
